The Case Witnessing Process – A Journey of Three Steps

Written by Dinesh Chauhan

Dinesh Chauhan provides a synopsis of the Case Witnessing Process.

Homeopathy is all about bringing out the individualistic expressions of the patient at the holistic level. And that’s where the role of skilful case taking comes in. The case witnessing process is a scientifically designed method of case taking to understand the patient’s unique individuality at the local, general and above all at the holistic level with an ease, simplicity, and assurance.

Why the term “case witnessing” process:

Many students and practitioners I meet often ask me, why I use the term “case witnessing” rather than “case receiving” or “case taking” or “case examination”. The answer lies in following the meaning of the verb “to witness”.

A witness is a close observer, one who gives a firsthand account of something seen. (In relation to the legal system) A witness is the one who does not add to or subtract any details from what he has seen. A witness just observes and provides information, as it is.

Every case that comes to us requires one hundred percent witnessing in order to understand the patient as he is. If we can witness our cases, only then will we refrain from superimposing the colours of our perceptions and fixed knowledge on the real holistic understanding of our patients. And that is the reason I feel it is important to use the case witnessing process with our patients and not just the case taking process!

Benefits offered by the case witnessing process:

  • The process of case witnessing is simple, scientific and systematic and can be followed and practiced easily by everyone.

  • All the questions that the patient is asked during the case witnessing process are thoroughly scientific and logical, not asked because of any whim or fancy, nor because a homoeopath “feels like” asking those questions.

  • Easy to reproduce: Anyone, be that a traditional classical or a contemporary classical homeopath, can make use of it.

  • The process is scientifically intuitive and hence reproducible: It is important to have the entire process of case witnessing scientific, because that makes it a systematic and logical approach which can be reproduced. And having the process intuitive is equally important, because that is the best way to travel the journey of Beyond-Conscious levels in the patient.

  • The three steps of the case witnessing process when followed step by step, helps to reach the vital core of the patient, even to the source of the patient with an ease and success.

  • Brings clarity to the process of exploring the vital core: Because the entire approach of CWP is thoroughly systematic in its application, it brings clarity while doing a case. At every step of your case, you know :

  • what stage of the case you are in,

  • how much journey is still left to reach the vital core,

  • how to travel that journey,

  • How much more time it may take to get there (vital core)

  • What types of defenses the patient is throwing

  • How to intelligently tackle the defenses thrown

  • Diagnostic as well as therapeutic for the patients:The entire approach of CWP not only proves diagnostic for the patient, but it offers therapeutic healing to the patient (much before the actual administration of the simillimum).
  • Therapeutic for the Healer: The whole energy field created during the process of witnessing an individual makes a quantum shift within the healer, and initiates healing moments for the physician.

  • Brings Hering’s law alive during the case taking itself: The case witnessing brings forth an opportunity to witness Hering’s Law of Cure happening in the patient, right in front of your eyes.

  • Integrative: The case witnessing process integrates different homeopaths belonging to various schools of thought.

Know the three steps of the case witnessing process (CWP):

1] Passive case witnessing process (PCWP)

2] Active Case Witnessing Process (ACWP)

3] Active -Active Case Witnessing Process (AACWP)

  1. Passive CWP:The first Passive step forms the basis of the entire case witnessing process. In this phase, the patient is allowed to be in the moment, to say whatever he / she wants to say; the homeopath allows the natural flow from the patient and stays passively alert to the fragmented individualistic expressions. This step helps to highlight the most important characteristic (the out of place, out of order) expressions at every level. That which gets repeated at every level is the focus of the case.

  2. Active CWP:The second, or “Active” phase of the interview, begins when the homeopath begins to ask questions. Here, the flow is directed inwards, towards the altered pattern of the patient to get the whole phenomenon. The isolated individualistic expressions that came during Passive step, now slowly start to get connected. The surety of the focus is established in this step. In cases when focus is not obtained in the passive process, the focus is first found and then confirmed in the active process.

  3. Active-Active CWP: This is the grand Finale. In this phase, the whole pattern of disturbed vital force gets unfolded and the simillimum is confirmed and the further journey is followed. Here, all the individualistic expressions of the patient that we got during PCWP and ACWP get connected into one single pattern.

Aims of the case witnessing process:

  1. AIMS of the PASSIVE case witnessing process:

The first aim is to pay attention to all the fragmented, isolated, verbal and nonverbal expressions that are :

  • out of place

  • out of order

  • out of flow

  • out of content

  • out of proportion

  • out of physician’s and patient’s knowledge

These expressions arise sporadically and are often not connected. It is interesting to witness how, later on, all these sporadic expressions join together by themselves to give us a clear picture of the altered pattern of the patient.

The second aim is to find the focus of the patient:

The focus is the entry point to the whole centre of the patient. It is that expression which consciously or unconsciously comes into the centre in every area that the patient talks about. The expressions can be verbal or nonverbal and will be repeated in more than two different, unrelated areas of the patient.

The third Aim is to find out the patient’s Level of Experience (LOE), which is his experience of the inside and outside world at that given moment of time:

  • Is the patient just naming his / her problems or describing plain facts about him / her? NAME AND FACT level of experience

  • Is the patient just talking about common emotions or common situations? EMOTION level of experience

  • Is the patient in touch with the imaginary world or his / her delusions? IMAGINATION / DELUSION level of experience

  • Is he actually experiencing the sensation physically and talking about it? SENSATION level of experience

  1. AIMS of the ACTIVE case witnessing process:

The first aim is to find the focus, if not obtained in the passive process:

Many times the patient is unable to give the focus of the case by himself. Here the physician remains open ended and takes the patient into different areas. That expression which the patient talks about in every area is the focus.

The second aim is to confirm the focus obtained.

The focus is confirmed by asking about it actively. When the focus is correct the patient starts joining the focus with other out of place expressions of the case and also with other general and vital areas of his life.

The whole Active process gives us surety about the focus of the patient and determines whether or not the journey is on the right track. In a broader perspective, it clears the path for the Active-Active Case witnessing process.

  1. AIMS of the ACTIVE-ACTIVE case witnessing process:

The first aim is to take the focus towards the complete altered pattern of the patient.

We ask the patient to talk about the focus in as much detail as possible, allowing him to just be in touch with the experience. The more he slips into the process, the clearer the picture is of the surfacing pattern. Gradually, all the isolated, scattered, verbal, and nonverbal expressions that spilled out during the passive and active case witnessing processes get connected in a single phenomenon.

The second aim of AACWP is to understand the kingdom and subkingdom: The Active-Active phase of case witnessing is the right place to think about the kingdom and subkingdom, since the entire nonhuman specific phenomenon will be understood in its entirety here. If we prematurely start analysing the kingdom and subkingdom in the passive or active process, the journey is sure to take a wrong turn.

The third aim is to know about the miasm: The miasm signifies the intensity, depth, and pace at which one perceives their altered pattern and reality. The miasm has to do with the way one copes with the experience of the altered pattern. Different individuals may share the same sensation, but perceive it with different intensities. At the subconscious level, a person’s miasm is constant, in the same way that the kingdom and subkingdom remain constant.

The fourth aim is to understand the reaction: Every sensation, perception, feeling, or thought excites a reaction. Reactions are always coupled with the inner altered pattern of energy and sensation. Remedies having similar sensations differ on account of their elicited reactions.

The other, not so obligatory, aims of AACWP are:

  • To take the complete pattern until the source level
  • To take the journey ahead towards healing awareness

(For a detailed description about all these, refer to the book The Scientifically Intuitive Case Witnessing Process: The Journey of Three Steps or log on to www.casewitnessing.com)

This is a brief introduction to the three steps of case witnessing. Its application in practice has brought an obvious transformation for me, not only in following the holistic understanding of my patients, but also in creating a holistic healing for them.

Any phenomena in the universe I see

It is in steps one, two and three

In the very first step, in the initiation

Simple observations are made, with conscious intention

The second step in succession directs the flow

Into the centre; inwards, one does go

Further, in the third step in progression

The whole emerges out, with harmony and scientific intuition

The journey that is, begins with effort

Transforms to effortless, devoid of any further exertion.

  • Dear Reader
A new packaging makes an item interesting again.
The process of gathering information is found in the Organon in par.: 83 – 102.

The purpose of such a “case witnessing process” was clear to Hahnemann: It is designed to exactly furnish him with the disease-symptoms in this individual case and at the same time with a good idea what was and is normal to the individual patient.
From this disease-symptom-picture the characteristic symptoms of the disease to be cured are brought out by the process of individualization.
The selection rests mainly on those symptoms being found as characteristics of the remedy.
In a nut shell this depicts homeopathic procedure.

Hahnemann’s intent is clearly defined in par.: 1 Org. and to that end he wrote the Organon and invented HOMEOPATHY.:
    >. The physicians highest and only occupation is, to make sick humans healthy, which is termed curing.<<
    Curing stands for: curing diseases.

The purpose of Dr. Dinesh Shauhans process is rather hazy; he sees himself as a healer. Particularly step 3 leaves the door wide open to all sorts of fantasies.

Without any clear purpose, the collection of expressions of every individual is endless, without clear guidelines what forms indications for the remedy, every remedy could be indicated, just depending on how much weight the practitioner put on which information.

And without a clear perception of what this remedy should actually do, it is impossible to judge the progress after the remedy was applied.

So this leaves me with the question: what good is the publication and promotion of yet another approach under the heading HOMEOPATHY, which is unsuitable to serve the purpose of homeopathy?

It confuses students of HOMEOPATHY even more, who are already confused by all these different approaches taught by practitioners who feel the need to advise new unproven methods, which are incapable to fulfill the purpose, instead of becoming knowledgeable of the rules and principles of HOMEOPATHY first.

Anyone who is interested in my work, and the clear homeopathy Hahnemann practiced and proclaimed is invited to have a look at: http://www.facebook.com/groups/302151859854069/

    • It is always my prime concern to connect all the shools of homoeopathy through my teaching. In the article The Missing Link Connecting Traditional and Contemporary Schools of Homeopathy in the same issue of homeopathy 4 everyone, I have shared this concern and have illustrated that how everyone from Dr Hahnemann to Dr Vithoulkas, sholten, everyone is trying to do the same thing but just because of the nomenclature it feels that all are saying something different….. My idea is to always bring clarity and connection between all the schools prevailing in homoeopathy simultaneously.

My idea behind the technique of case witnessing process is also the same.

  • I guess and i am sorry if i am wrong but Mr Hans Weitbrecht above who has written this comment is not in depth aware about the depth with which Dinesh Sir works as level 3 of process is not making the picture hazy, but crystal clear were there are v little chance for every 1 to come to different remedy for any given case which is mostly the scenerio else and there are obvious clear scientific guidelines here which also clearly indicates to remedy.

  • A case well taken is half cured.–Masters used to say so.The case witnessing is a step forward towards that art .Thank you Dr Chauhan.

  • Dear Dr. inesh Chauhan,

Really useful and methodic steps in case witnessing process but if each step or point is supported by an
example, it will be more clear to understand the reach the point. However, it is indeed a practical one.
    Thank Q.

  • Dr.Dinesh Chauhan is a great Master. He taught his thoughts THE THREE STEPS OF CASE WITNESSING PROCESS worldwide ! that step is marvalous. Because he only stopped the different approach of case taking methods. Yes. the simple scientific methods is very useful to all homoeopaths ! if anybody follow his method they will be easily find out the human centric and the source … yes the real suitable similimum to the patient ! HIS BOOKS ARE VERY USEFUL TO ALL HOMOEOPATHS ! HIS WRITING STYLE IS VERY NICE TO UNDERSTAND THE CASE TAKING METHODS AND HUMAN CENTRIC ALSO ! THANKS MASTER !
