Tidbits 22 — Natural Treatments for ITP

Written by Elaine Lewis

Natural treatments for ITP

What is it, exactly?

This disease didn’t even exist when I was growing up.  No one had it!  (Except for possibly my friend Sandy, who always talked about her horrible experience as a child, hospitalized for something she called “Purpura”.  I never understood what she was saying!  “How do you spell that?”  I could never grasp what it was that she had!  Everyone who knew Sandy knew her purpura story, but, that was the extent of my “knowledge” of this disease.)

Now it’s the talk of the town!

ITP stands for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura.  Let me break that down for you.  Idiopathic means, “Call us idiots, but, we don’t know why you have it!”  (Literally, it means: cause—unknown!)

Thrombocytopenia means abnormally low platelets (the cells responsible for clotting); and, Purpura simply means “purple”, or a tendency to bruise, which would be inevitable if you had abnormally low platelets.

So here’s the scenario.  Typically a child is brought to the ER because he or she has a nosebleed that won’t stop.  It is at this point that the diagnosis of ITP is made.  The treatment?  Well, they don’t have one!  Band aid measures like prednisone and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) to raise the platelet count for a few days or weeks is all they’ve got, then it goes right back to below normal where it was, necessitating more rounds of prednisone and IVIg.  When does it end?

There are horrible side effects associated with these “therapies”, including nausea, vomiting and headaches.  At some point, out of desperation, doctors may remove the spleen but there is no guarantee that by doing so, the problem will be solved.

Natural Treatments

Vitamin C has shown promise as a study in the Japanese Journal of Hematology in the April 1990 issue has indicated. 1/

I recommend “Sufficient-C” (see below)

Sufficient-c

One tsp. of the powder mixed in half a glass of water gives you 2,000 mg. of Vitamin C and you can repeat that 3 times a day or as needed.  Stop if your stomach starts growling and then resume when the rumbling stops.  This is a typical side-effect of Vitamin-C.  I just cured a bladder infection with just 2,000 mg. of Sufficient-C, so I know that it works!  And with no pills to swallow, no GMO’s, and no added sugar, Sufficient-C is a real blessing, and it has a very mild taste.

Secondly, stop the junk food, it just makes everything worse!  Junk food (food made with white flour, white sugar and an array of questionable ingredients including GMO’s) actually leeches nutrients out of your body, making you nutrient-deficient; and, how that can help you to get well?

Do you know what you need?  Your parents were right—you need vegetables!  And the easiest way to get vegetables effortlessly is by juicing them!  Buy a juicer!

Eating 3 carrots is difficult, nearly impossible, but drinking them is easy, and the same can be said of all vegetables; and add an apple and it will taste delicious!  And imagine all the concentrated vitamins and minerals you’re supplying your cells!  Raw juices need no digesting, they are instantly bio-available and are a real shot in the arm.  This is what a juicer looks like:

You need apple/beet juice for the blood and spleen, plus carrot/apple juice and I hear Papayas and Papaya Leaf extract or capsules have an affinity for this disease.  So does Wheat Grass Juice.  Drink as much raw juice as you possibly can!

See my “Convalescence” article for details on what to eat to recover from any disease:

https://hpathy.com/homeopathy-papers/tidbits-part-8-convalescence/

And watch this video on juicing, as it explains everything:

You need to start eating whole foods (not food that comes in a package with a corporate name on it, processed food, in other words).  And, don’t over-cook your vegetables and don’t cook food in a micro-wave!  It wouldn’t surprise me if irradiated food and radiation leaking from microwave ovens didn’t contribute to this disease.

Severely cut back on flour and sugar but if you must, the flour should be whole grain, and the rice should be brown rice.  Also, please check out my article on what to feed your kids (and your adults who eat like kids):

https://hpathy.com/homeopathy-papers/tidbits-47-feed-kids-wont-wind-sick-stupid/

Here’s an example of real food, food that supports health.  This is a stir-fry I made consisting of baby spinach, mushrooms, onions and bean sprouts to be served over brown rice with some tamari sauce (but use any sauce you want):

Here is a similar dish served over brown rice pasta:

You can’t forget the salad…

This is what a sandwich should look like, there should be a ton of vegetables that go with it.  This is probably a chicken salad sandwich on black bread.

If your family can shift over to eating this way, you and your child will get well and stay well.

One woman with ITP said she got well from drinking Aloe juice every day, and I believe her!  I know it’s a miracle wound-healer.  I would start with 2 ounces a day and make sure you tolerate it well, and if you do, you can increase your amounts to 2 oz. twice a day, and so on.

Oh!  And one more important thing!  Cod Liver Oil!

Cod liver oil is an anti-inflammatory, which is what prednisone is!  Mix a tsp. of cod liver oil in an ounce of organic milk twice a day and stir vigorously and drink right away or else the oil and milk will separate.  Cod liver oil comes in flavors now and it really does NOT taste bad, I promise!

And speaking of milk, if there is any way you can get raw milk, that’s what you should buy, not standard supermarket milk!  (The picture below is not standard supermarket milk, it’s RAW milk, meaning unprocessed milk.  If you don’t know where to find it, try going to www.RealMilk.com.  Mom’s Organic Market has it, and probably various health food stores and Farmers Markets have it.)

Raw milk is a real food, a whole food.  Homogenized/pasteurized milk leads to allergies precisely because it is not natural.  Alternatives to raw milk would be coconut milk (unsweetened), almond milk, flax milk, hemp milk, but no soy milk please.

Regular supermarket milk comes from cows raised in factory farms, fed antibiotics (the very things that cause ITP!) to fatten them up.  They’re also fed female hormones for the same reason, fed junk food…nothing good can come of this.  Besides, you don’t want to support this cruelty and insanity with your dollars.

Problem Parents

Even though the above-illustrated dietary change might seem simple and sensible, the children with this disease, I have found, are mostly addicted to junk food!  Maybe this is a problem across the board with everyone’s child?  But, it makes it very difficult to help children who have a disease!

I find that these kids are eating utterly nonsensical things that can’t possibly support life–things like white bread, rolls, biscuits, pizza, Chicken McNuggets, French fries…and so on, but hardly any vegetables or fruit at all!  And the parents will say, “But he’s very picky!”  That’s because sweets and carbs are addicting and make real food seem unappetizing!

donuts

I have said to these parents, “You simply have to explain to the child that junk food is keeping this disease going, and remind him of how much he hates the hospital!”

This is real food:

healthy food

My understanding is that kids don’t like being sick.  They don’t like needles and they don’t like doctors!

Dr. Nick and Homer

They are only too happy to cooperate once you explain to them that junk food just means more trips to the hospital!  The trouble is, the parents are not, themselves, convinced that there is anything wrong with processed food!  After all, how can it possibly be bad?  Everyone else is eating it!  (But trust me, they’re sick too, you just can’t see it!)

I have written articles on food and diet which will help educate the parents because it all starts with them!   Click here for “Food Fight!”, my articles on foods that harm and foods that cure:

https://elainelewis.hpathy.com/food-fight/

It all starts with the parents and how knowledgeable they are.

What Else Contributes to This Disease?

In a word, DRUGS.  Drugs and Vaccines!

drugs and vaccinations

I have found this disease in practically every drug I’ve looked under!  At first I thought it was just the antibiotics.  Then I found it under antidepressants, Tylenol, blood pressure medicine and I’ve even found it under Prednisone and IVIg, the very treatments that are given for this disease!  And the reason is, it’s not just ITP, or platelet disorder; drugs disorganize every aspect of the blood, causing blood diseases of all sorts!

I’ve read that children often come down with ITP after a virus.  But you have to wonder if the real culprit isn’t the drug the parents gave for the virus!

It’s not hard to imagine that an antibiotic was given (even though antibiotics are useless against viruses!)  Antibiotics only work against bacteria, and yes, bacteria and viruses are two different things!  It’s no secret that doctors hand antibiotics out to children with complete abandon as if no harm could possibly come of it.

I am literally going to pick a drug at random at Drugs.com right now and I will prove to you that “Thrombocytopenia” or “Purpura” is listed as a side-effect of whatever drug I choose!  Do you want to give it a try?  You can do this too!

OK, so, I just went to drugs.com, I clicked on the letter “L”, just because it’s in the middle of the alphabet, and then scrolled down to Lipitor (a cholesterol-lowering drug that practically every adult over 45 is on!)  So I clicked on “side effects”, scrolled down, and this is what I found under Lipitor:

Hematologic

Hematologic side effects including hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and leukopenia have occurred with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors.  These [side] effects may be manifestations of a hypersensitivity reaction. [Meaning, they have no explanation for why this drug causes ITP.]

[Transaltion:  They’re trying to explain to you what Lipitor does in the body.  It inhibits an enzyme that allows the liver to manufacture cholesterol, which is actually an essential bodily component with many important functions.]

___________________________

So there it is!  But did you notice that Lipitor doesn’t just cause thrombocytopenia?  It also causes anemia and low white count too!  You will notice that with all the examples I show you!  Every drug, apparently, has the potential to cause a blood disease.  OK, now let’s look at a drug kids get all the time: Amoxicillin:

Hematologic

…Hematologic side effects associated with penicillins have included thrombocytopenia, anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenic purpura, agranulocytosis, hemolytic anemia, eosinophilia, and granulocytopenia. These effects are usually reversible and are believed to be due to hypersensitivity reactions.

_______________________________

Do you see how it isn’t just the platelet count?  This common antibiotic is a blood destroyer—period!

Now this is important…what about vaccines?  We are about to find out.  I did a search for the MMR Vaccine package insert on google and here’s what it says about the effects on the blood:

Hemic and Lymphatic System

Thrombocytopenia (see WARNINGS, Thrombocytopenia); purpura; regional lymphadenopathy; leukocytosis.

WARNINGS

Individuals with current thrombocytopenia may develop more severe thrombocytopenia following vaccination.  In addition, individuals who experienced thrombocytopenia with the first dose of M-M-R II (or its component vaccines) may develop thrombocytopenia with repeat doses.  Serologic status may be evaluated to determine whether or not additional doses of vaccine are needed. The potential risk to benefit ratio should be carefully evaluated before considering vaccination in such cases (see ADVERSE REACTIONS). 2/

______________________________________

What this means is, vaccines can cause ITP and are contraindicated if you already have ITP!  If your child has ITP, your doctor SHOULD have warned you against further vaccination, did he?

______________________________

Conclusion?  Vaccinations are a major cause of ITP.  What about Paracetamol?  (aka Tylenol)  Let’s have a look:

Hematologic

Hematologic side effects including rare cases of thrombocytopenia associated with acetaminophen (the active ingredient contained in Paracetamol) have been reported. …

Have you heard enough?  We could spend all day doing this.  I hope I have made the point that if you’re giving your children drugs– ANY DRUGS — you are putting them at risk for a variety of diseases but especially ITP!

What choice do you have, you might ask?  It may surprise you to know that toxic pharmaceutical medicine is NOT the only medicine in the world—though they would like you to think so!  My daughter, Shana, has never taken drugs, not even an antibiotic, nor even an aspirin, in her life…as a matter of fact, she doesn’t even know how to swallow pills!  She’s 22 years old, and when she gets sick, we give her homeopathic remedies.  When she was a child, we took her to the Reiki practitioner who worked in our holistic MD’s practice; plus, she eats a serving of vegetables every day.  I don’t mean to suggest that Shana is perfect by any means; she has her share of pizza and French fries; but, apparently, staying away from drugs is its own reward!  Shana, are you there?

Shana April 2015

Mom, do I have to appear in all your articles?

I think my articles would look better if you did!

So…. Why do they preface this disease with the word “Idiopathic”, which simply means “Cause: unknown”?  Isn’t it obvious that every drug in the pharmacy causes it?  Have you noticed that more and more people have such odd blood diseases as leukemia and lymphoma?  Where do you think they’re getting them from?

Leukemia

There are an estimated 310,046 people living with, or in remission from, leukemia in the US.

In 2014, 52,380 people are expected to be diagnosed with leukemia.

In 2014, 24,090 people are expected to die from leukemia.

Hodgkins and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma

There are an estimated 731,277 people living with, or in remission from, lymphoma in the US.

For Hodgkins Lymphoma (HL), an estimated 172,937 people are living with the disease or are in remission.

For NHL, an estimated 558,340 people are living with the disease or are in remission.

In 2014, there are expected to be 79,990 new cases of lymphoma diagnosed in the US (9,190 cases of HL, 70,800 cases of NHL).

In 2014, 20,170 people are expected to die from lymphoma (1,180 from HL, 18,990 from NHL).

If you look at the hematologic side effects of almost any antibiotic, here is what you are likely to find, as shown here under the side effects of popular antibiotic, Keflex from Drugs.com:

Hematologic

Hematologic side effects have included eosinophilia [an increase in eosinophils, a kind of white blood cell], neutropenia [a decrease in another kind of white blood cell], thrombocytopenia [a decrease in the number of platelets] and hemolytic anemia [anemia caused by the destruction of red blood cells].

So you see, all of the blood is disordered.  Is it really a surprise that blood diseases are on the rise?

What If I Don’t Have ITP?

Paxil

Well, don’t worry.  There are lots of diseases you can get from taking drugs.  Let’s look at Paxil (information from Drugs.com) — Paxil is a very popular antidepressant.  It’s capable of causing every disease in the book, including:

  1. Seizures
  2. Trouble breathing
  3. Irregular heartbeat, pounding heartbeat
  4. Inability to move the eyes
  5. Trembling, shaking or twitching
  6. Blindness
  7. Fainting
  8. Trouble swallowing
  9. High fever
  10. Joint pain
  11. Painful urination
  12. Stomach bleeding
  13. Sleep walking
  14. Paralysis
  15. Delusions
  16. Tardive Dyskinesia
  17. Mania
  18. Hallucinations
  19. Hostility
  20. Shingles
  21. Loss of bladder control
  22. Heart failure
  23. Diabetes
  24. Kidney failure
  25. Hepatitis
  26. Hip fracture
  27. Gout
  28. Muscle aches and pains
  29. Angina and…
  30. Thrombcytopenia (of course!)

Oh, and by they way, according to the January 2010 issue of JAMA, antidepressants work no better than placebo! 3/

Homeopathy

You can continue down this road of self-destruction, or, you can switch to homeopathy, vitamin C, juicing, whole foods, etc.

The Homeopathic Repertory rubric for this disease–if you’re a homeopath and are reading this and if you have Murphy’s Repertory, 3rd ed.—is in the “Clinical” chapter.  Scroll down to “Purpura, hemorrhagica, idiopathica”.  (In Murphy’s 2nd ed., check the Diseases chapter.)  The main remedies listed for it are: Arnica, Arsenicum, Crotalus h., Hamamelis, Lachesis, Phosphorus and Sulphuric acid.  Even so, you still have to take a complete case.

homeopathic remedies 2

How often do you give a homeopathic remedy and in what potency?  That’s hard because by the time you see the child, his or her symptoms are under control from the hospital treatment.  In other words, there are no symptoms.  You may start conservatively, giving the constitutional remedy in the 30C potency once every three days, but, don’t be surprised if it doesn’t hold once the IVIg wears off!  At that point, you can try the remedy three times a day with the idea that as the patient gets better (stops bleeding and bruising), you’ll give the remedy less and less often.  Try to find a maintenance dose–not giving too much, and not giving too little.

Always make a remedy solution bottle for dosing.  You do that by putting two remedy pellets into a small, half-filled, bottle of spring water and succussing 5 times before each dose.  “Succussion” is demonstrated in this video:

My only issue with this video is that the practitioner is not using disposable items with her remedies–other than her plastic water bottle.  She appears to be using real glasses instead of paper or plastic cups and a measuring spoon instead of a plastic spoon.  Other than that, she’s doing fine.

Case-management can be very tricky with homeopathy because the IVIG treatments give a false sense of the case improving.  Continuing to give the remedy at this point gives you no feedback.  Going the route of juicing, whole foods, vegetables, aloe juice, vitamin C, wheat grass juice and papaya leaf is something even the lay person can do and should do right away.

Email me if you want to try homeopathy for ITP: [email protected]  but given the clear and present danger of pharmaceutical drugs, I would encourage everyone with ITP to learn as much about homeopathy as possible because truly, if you keep giving your child drugs for one thing and another, you’re only reinforcing this disease, how will they ever get out from under it?

Homeopath, April Bowen, had this to say about her own daughter’s treatment:

What I have seen with other ITP patients is, when given the best homeopathic remedy, platelets drop below 10k at first, and then begin climbing.

My theory is that when one has few platelets, the body protects itself by making these platelets larger and stickier to prevent hemorrhage. So, in effect, these are ‘defective’ platelets.

I think that when the body begins healing itself, it essentially ‘wipes the slate clean’ and starts over with healthy, normal platelets. How fast anyone responds will depend on many factors.

Those who respond quickly like my daughter have usually had few or no treatments (we only allowed WinRho and IVIG). Any kind of steroids have suppressed the immune system and make it much, much harder to get it to start working again.

Antibiotics, OTC meds and vaccines will also have an effect on healing. I find most people with ITP have leaky guts and so repairing the gut is essential, which is why some people do see remission when using special diets and supplements to that end.

As April says, drugs do a lot of damage and can make this disease very difficult to move in the right direction.

Homeopathic remedies can take the place of drugs for all kinds of ailments, from the flu to bee stings, to cuts and scrapes, bumps and bruises… the sky’s the limit here.  For all the reasons you give a drug, there’s a homeopathic remedy that will do the same thing—but safely!  You should have a 30C homeopathic Emergency Kit at home.  You can buy them from Amazon.com.

Buy an acute prescribing book:

Alan's book

(Amazon has it.)

You can learn that when your child gets a high fever, instead of giving Tylenol or antibiotics, you give Belladonna or Aconite; or when your child gets the flu, you give Gelsemium.  (These are only rough guidelines, this is why you need an acute prescribing book.)  Sure, you won’t be perfect in the beginning, and you’ll make mistakes; but, eventually, it will be second nature to you and you’ll have a problem-free household like mine!  Yes, that is really possible!

Now, this just in!  A friend of mine sent me the following which she found in an article titled “Low Platelet Count Natural Remedies”/4–but P.S., where the author says to add honey, make sure it’s RAW honey, which you can get at your health food store, as anything less is just sugar for all intents and purposes:

Here are the top 10 ways to increase a low platelet count naturally.

1. Papaya

Both the papaya fruit and its leaves can help increase a low platelet count within just a few days. In 2009, researchers at the Asian Institute of Science and Technology in Malaysia found that papaya leaf juice can increase the platelet count of people diagnosed with dengue fever.
  • Eat ripe papaya or drink a glass of papaya juice with a little lemon juice 2 or 3 times daily.
  • You can also pound a few papaya leaves without the stalk using a pestle and mortar to extract the juice. Drink 2 tablespoons of this bitter juice 2 times a day.

2. Wheatgrass

According to a 2011 study published in International Journal of Universal Pharmacy and Life Sciences, wheatgrass can be beneficial in increasing platelet count.
In fact, it can produce significant increases in hemoglobin, red blood cell, total white blood cell and differential white blood cell counts. This happens because wheatgrass is high in chlorophyll with a molecular structure almost identical to the hemoglobin molecule in human blood.
Simply drink ½ cup of wheatgrass juice mixed with a little lemon juice daily.

3. Pumpkin

Pumpkin is another helpful food to improve your low platelet count. It is rich in vitamin A that helps support proper platelet development. It also regulates the proteins produced in the cells, which is important to raise the platelet level.
  • In ½ glass of fresh pumpkin juice, add 1 teaspoon of honey and drink it 2 or 3 times a day.
  • Also, include pumpkin in your diet by adding pumpkin puree to soups, stews, smoothies and baked goods.

4. Spinach

Spinach is a good source of vitamin K which is often used to help treat low platelet disorder. Vitamin K is required for proper blood clotting. Thus, it reduces the risk of excessive bleeding.
  • Boil 4 or 5 leaves of fresh spinach in 2 cups of water for a few minutes. Allow it to cool, and mix in 1/2 glass of tomato juice. Drink it 3 times a day.
  • Also, enjoy this green vegetable in salads, green smoothies, side dishes or soups.

5. Vitamin C

To increase your platelet count, you need to increase your intake of vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid. A study published in 1990 in the Japanese Journal of Hematology stated that vitamin C improves platelet count.
Being a powerful antioxidant, high doses of vitamin C also prevent free-radical mediated damage of the platelets. Your body requires 400 to 2,000 mg of vitamin C per day, depending on your age and overall health.
  • Eat foods high in vitamin C like lemons, oranges, tomatoes, cantaloupes, kiwi, spinach, bell peppers and broccoli.
  • You may also take vitamin C in supplement form daily, but only after consulting your doctor.

6. Indian Gooseberries

A popular Ayurvedic remedy to raise your platelet count is Indian gooseberries, also known as amla. The vitamin C in amla can help increase the production of platelets and boost your immune system.
  • Eat 3 to 4 gooseberries on an empty stomach every morning.
  • Alternatively, mix together 2 tablespoons each of amla juice and honey. Drink it 2 or 3 times daily.
  • You can also eat homemade jam or pickles made with fresh Indian gooseberries.

7. Sesame Oil

This cold-pressed oil is also beneficial in increasing your platelet count. Sesame oil has properties that can raise platelet level naturally. It reduces free radical damage, inflammation in the body and helps improve blood circulation.
  • Drink 1 to 2 tablespoons of high-quality sesame oil twice a day.
  • You can also rub some sesame oil externally on lymph node areas several times daily to help increase platelet counts.
  • In addition, use cold-pressed sesame oil for cooking.

8. Beetroot

Eating beetroot is another popular dietary method of increasing the platelet count. Being high in natural antioxidant and hemostatic properties, beetroot can raise your platelet count within a few days.
  • Drink 1 tablespoon of fresh beetroot juice 3 times daily.
  • Another option is to mix 3 tablespoons of beetroot juice in a glass of carrot juice and drink it 2 times daily.
Note: Avoid all types of exercises when your platelet count is less than 15,000 as it may increase the risk of bleeding.
Additional Tips
  • Limit alcohol intake as it can hamper production of platelets in the bone marrow.
  • Also, avoid tonic water as the quinine in it can contribute to decreased blood platelet counts.
  • Avoid eating raw vegetables when your platelet count is low as it may damage the intestinal lining. Instead, steam vegetables until soft and then eat them.
  • Eat 1 to 2 red guavas daily to improve the platelet count.
  • Foods that act as blood purifiers like aloe vera must also be included in your diet.
  • Avoid all dairy products, including milk, yogurt, cheese and butter, for a few days as these products can contribute to mucus formation and worsen some autoimmune diseases.
  • Avoid canned and processed foods that do not offer many nutrients.
  • Get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night to help your body recharge and produce more platelets.
  • Eat whole-grain cereals, brown rice and whole-wheat products. Avoid white flour, white rice and processed foods.
  • Avoid activities that may cause injuries.
  • Ask your doctor before taking over-the-counter medications as some medicines may affect your platelet function.

Let me just say, that if you scroll down and read the last comment in the “Comments” section below, it turns out that someone really tried these suggestions and actually got better!!!!  So, I hope you scroll down and look for that.

See you again next time and hopefully this article puts you on the healing track with ITP!

  • I love it! You shoot straight from the hip and get right to the point. These are the facts everyone should know.

  • Dear Elaine,
I like the most to read your articles here. As a pediatrician I must admit that you are very much right for the medicines, but, sometimes they are still necessary. By the way, diseases existed before the medicines. It is very important to do everything what you say not to be ill, but, if you have for ex. ITP with 5000 plateles, it is good to receive transfusion and IVIg before you get intracranial hemorrhage – for example. Thank you for your articles

  • Marija, I think the issue here is one of proportion. The fact that medicines may be needed “sometimes” leads us to ask what “sometimes” means. If Shana is any indication, “sometimes” is never, but in the average person’s experience, “sometimes” is “all the time”, and I think we’re seeing the results of that, with what should be a rare disease now being commonplace. I’ve tried to point out that blood diseases in general are too wide-spread. It’s time to take a new look at drugs, many of which are presumed to be harmless–like Tylenol and the MMR vaccine–and re-evaluate what constitutes health care. Thank you for commenting!

  • I completely agree with you, just saying that I would like the official medicine and homeopathy to find common interest in helping the patients. It would be fantastic if they can work together. Unfortunately, these days are the days when agreement between groups who think differently is almost impossible.

  • Yes, it would be fantastic if mainstream medicine would branch out to include us! Every hospital, by all rights, should have a department of homeopathy, herbal medicine, acupressure and acupuncture, chiropractic and raw juice therapy, wouldn’t that be amazing? They don’t do it because of the strangle-hold the pharmaceutical industry has on all of medicine, including medical schools, hospitals and doctors themselves. We’re talking about the rich and the powerful here. It’s all about money. It must be hard knowing your carefully constructed edifice could fold like a house of cards just on enough people finding out the truth–that your drugs cause disease, they don’t heal, they make your complaint worse… Under the circumstances, you can’t exactly open the door to therapies that actually work, knowing that what you offer would ultimately be shunned and discarded in the process.

  • The power of a healthy lifestyle is undeniable for anyone. While there’s no single diet or regimen that will relieve the symptoms of ITP, you can support your immune system by making your lifestyle a healthier one.

  • Thank you for such a great article, Elaine. So interesting, informative and right on the money! I’m so sick of conventional “medicine.” If doctors aren’t using chemicals to merely suppress an illness, they’re using surgery to cut it out. Taking drugs, AS PRESCRIBED, is the 4th leading cause of DEATH in the US. I have yet to find a doctor who truly follows the first rule of medicine to “First, Do No Harm.” Thank you also, Elaine, for reminding us to drink our veggie/fruit juices daily.

  • Hi Elaine, I just read this article. I was diagnosed with ITP last year 2021. It seemed to have developed from a combination of junk food, Advil for period pain and my ongoing anemic condition that then got worse. My platelets fell to zero during periods. I had to be given blood transfusions, it was critical and bad. Hospital put me on prednisone and IVIG. My hatred of prednisone got me into searching for all other solutions out there. I did precisely everything you have listed in your article minus vitamin c, which I’ll be trying now. I just wanted to write this in case any ITP patient is reading this, that this article has invaluable information. I wish I had read this earlier. All of this works! I have done all of this and healed. I am no more a critical ITP patient. Whole Foods, Aloe Vera, Indian gooseberries, brown rice, papaya, green vegetables, vegetables, raw foods and lots of vegetable juicing got my platelets up and running at a minimum level for an entire year thus far. I am off prednisone and not looking back. Also avoiding all junk foods. There is junk food and there is real food. God bless you Elaine for this article. When I had ITP they told me there is no hope. But that’s just because THEY don’t have a solution to it! I believe all problems have answers if we are positive and patient just to look for them with faith and sincerity. Also, breathing excercises, yoga, fresh coconut water and in my case ashwagandha worked as a great medicine. And meditation. Ashwagandha worked as a substitute to prednisone. I am still on it. Thank you again for researching and writing this article. All the information here, as simple as it sounds, it is invaluable. And, it works.
