Tidbits 80: Pulsatilla Proving

Written by Elaine Lewis

Elaine shares a story of a patient proving Pulsatilla, saved by the Aggravation Zapper!

Another shining example of reckless prescribing…

I get a lot of emails from people who have googled “homeopathic aggravation” and found Diane’s and my “Aggravation Zapper”.   (Please google it, or look for it on my website which is linked at the bottom.)

One such case in point is below.  Who would have imagined that a proving of Pulsatilla could be so violent?  Apparently Pulsatilla can severely disrupt the digestion!  I did know that it’s our main remedy for “Ailments From Fat”, and I did prescribe it once for a visitor who had eaten too much pizza.  But here is the tale of “Miss Puff” (thank you, Shana, for that stupid name!!!!)

I got it from “Spongebob”!

Oh, well, why didn’t you say so?  Anyway…as I was saying, “Miss Puff”…

went to a homeopath with the complaint of having missed a period and, well, all heck broke loose!

***

Hi Elaine; yes, I will happily tell my story for your readers.  I skipped a period in April which is quite unusual for me.  I saw a homeopath for a remedy and was prescribed Pulsatilla 200C, 4 times a day, every day, until my cycle was back to normal.

One dose of Pulsatilla 200C would have been enough!

Even I knew that 200C 4 times a day was a bit much; so, I took just one dose (1 pellet) and waited for a result.

How long did you have to wait?

I waited for one day.  After the first dose, I passed a clot and nothing followed.  I updated my homeopath and he suggested more doses of Pulsatilla 200C.  I was again skeptical and finally administered one pellet at night, 2 days later.

The very next morning, I was exhibiting a Proving of Pulsatilla!  (Nausea, vomiting, neediness, cold feet, bleeding upon rising from a chair, dry mouth but no thirst, etc.) and also started to spot.  I could tell that this was not a healing response!

Good call!

I started digging up every source to find a way to antidote/rectify this error.  I was lucky enough to find your (Dr. Elaine’s) “Aggravation Zapper”.  I set my mind to healing myself, I sent you an email not expecting a response 🙂

You mean I actually answered?  (It was probably Shana pretending to be me.)

You replied promptly to all my queries and concerns and were reassuring all the time.

Now I know it was Shana!  (Did she mention the Rolling Stones?  Or Spongebob?)

Now, coming to what followed.  I tried the “aggravation zapper” after 4 days of spotting.  I took one pellet of Pulsatilla 30C into a cup of water.

This was because you were afraid to zap with the 200C, right?

Correct, as I may have mentioned earlier, I am very petite, a vegan, and felt 200C is shaking me up a bit, if that makes any sense 🙂

You were All Shook Up, alright!

So, after dropping the pellet of Pulsatilla 30C into a cup of water, I poured it out and refilled with water 5 times and held on to the 6th cup.  I took a sip of it, and within seconds I felt it was working like magic!

Wow!!!!!!

The symptom of dry mouth eased, bleeding upon rising ceased and now I had a steady flow like a normal period, my mood was excellent!  I was amazed it worked!

The steady flow continued for 4 more days and then I spotted little by little, occasionally showing symptoms of a relapse.

OK, what were your relapse symptoms?

I had the same issues: nausea, vomiting, dryness of mouth with lack of thirst, cold feet etc…

At this point, it had been more than 2 weeks since the spotting, bleeding, spotting….  Exhaustion took over.  I was extremely cautious not to go for any higher doses, and with Dr. Elaine’s encouragement…

I don’t remember being encouraging….

I tried the zapper one more time, though I was very reluctant; but you (Elaine) said I could go down to 6C.  So… again, Pulsatilla 6C, 6th cup, and the bleeding was relieved and I was relieved.  If I may add, Pulsatilla 6C was relatively slower to show improvement than the 30C.

I think if you hadn’t been so afraid, I’d have said, “Do the zapper with the 30C pellet, just the way you did it before, only this time, take a straw or a plastic spoon and stir the final cup before you take a sip of it.”

The very next day after the bleeding stopped, I was exhibiting catarrhal symptoms (head cold, postnasal drip, nausea, etc.)  This still comes under the heading of a Pulsatilla proving, just not to the extreme.  I did nothing about it and just let it be, I waited.  All the symptoms eventually went away.

Wow!  That is quite a story!  What would you have done without the Aggravation Zapper???  You were in dire straits!  But this must happen to who-knows-how-many people every day due to aggressive prescribing, what a horrifying thought!  Homeopaths, take note: this is what you can do to people with insane, arbitrary prescribing methods, bearing no relationship to The Organon or Hahnemann, who warns us to always put the remedy in water, succuss a few times before each dose, choose the lowest potency that makes sense, and repeat or go up in potency gradually on an as-needed basis only!

True that.

People should read my FAQ article for tips on proper case management.
