  • I am a veterinarian, and I would like to know if anyone thinks homeopathy is a placebo, what is the foundation fhtor a placebo effect in animals. The explanations given to support the placebo theory are really fantasious.
I have seen homeopathy working in animals for 11 years now.

    • My husband and my brother both think it is placebo, however, our rabbit seems to get well on homeopathy every time he gets ill! There are some who love to have their blinders on, because the brightness of truth can be blinding to them.

    • There’s at least 3 ways the placebo effect can work in animals. One is that the animals themselves respond positively to being cared for. That’s not all that hard to imagine.

The second is that owners are susceptible to the placebo effect, and behave differently when giving a medication that they believe to be effective.

The third is regression to the mean, which doesn’t actually require a placebo effect, but has very similar observable effects.

There’s a good way to figure out whether the effect of homoeopathy in animals is due to the placebo effect, and that is to do good quality double blind randomised placebo controlled trials.

      • Millions of animals have been treated with homeopathy…both domestic pets and livestock. So here’s the important point: If you give the wrong remedy, nothing happens. If you give the right one, they get better.
        End of story.

      • I suppose something is not logical here… I don`t understand why the “rational minds” rather think that the beliefs of a pet´s owner can cure an ill animal, and the owner`s different behavior can simply do that, which are so energetical or at least mystical for an “academical” cure, while they just can`t and so hardly resist to grasp homeopathy…

  • My comment es simple…………..in my family my grandchildren are third generation being treated with homeopathy………..and I´m surrounded by a lot of friends and relatives who are also being treated with homeopaty.

My friends´granchildren are treated in the same way………………We´re really happy for having met homeopathy and marvellous homeopaths

We thanks God for having been illuminated and taken the way that allows a better life

  • And your point is what, exactly?

Yes, we know that some people don’t trust experts and do their own thing. For example, in the ivory towers of academia, the medical community talk about strategies for promoting safe sex.

Meanwhile, in the real world, plenty of people have unprotected sex and end up with syphilis, hepatitis B, or HIV as a result.

So are you saying that what people do in the real world is better than what the experts discuss in academia?

    • You missed the point of the cartoon…. by a mile. 500 million people have used homeopathy, experienced its effects and been healed by it, while some academics WHO HAVE NEVER TRIED IT debate it theoretically. Imagine if some experts announced tomorrow that the internal combustion engine was theoretically impossible. What would you say to them. You would say…”There are millions of cars on the on the road!!”

  • I like to think that I live in the real world. I have lots of friends and a large family. None, and we must be talking about at least 500 people here, use homeopathy. I’ve never heard any of them mention any of the treatments mentioned in the cartoon. Maybe this is the ‘real homeopaths world’?

  • The W.H.O. stated that homeopathy is the 2nd most widely used form of medicine in the world…roughly 500 million people. If your friends and family have missed out on it, perhaps you tell them about it.

(p.s. If you are a homeopathy antagonist, then you are at the wrong website)

  • HI Alan
I enjoy your cartoons and am looking for permission to use the bottom one in a student newsletter in a small college in NZ (next to a brief article on acutes). I will reference the work, of course, and also your great newsletter.
    Many thanks
    Kathy
