Veterinary Tip

Having read the Tips and Secrets from January 2012, the article of Farrington has struck me. I would add a comment. For Parotitis in animals I have had wonderful experiences with Trifolium pratense (acute) and Trifolium repens in slow developing, rather chronic cases. I have even got results when there were saliva calculi. (They are included in the Materia Medica Veterinaria).

Thanks to Jacques Millemann DVM (Hpathy has published numerous veterinary cases and articles from Dr. Millemann.)

Four Tips from Dr. Banerjea

Polyps : Formica Rufa – Nasal polypi – best remedy: sure cure. (30C)

Nails : Butyricum Acidicum – Crumbling of finger nails. 6C

Furuncle : Abrotanum after Hepar in furuncle.

Condylomata : Sabina follows well after Thuja in condylomata and Sycotic affections.

Acute Prostate

In acute inflammation with tenesmus, Pulsatilla, Belladonna and Ferrum phosphoricum are the most valuable remedies, as also Selenium in the chronic form. In beginning prostatic hypertrophy with some inflammation and urinary disturbance Sabal serrulata 3x produces a splendid effect, hence it has been called the ” homoeopathic catheter ” because it acts quickly and markedly on congestion. Ferrum picricum follows it importantly. Do not forget Calcarea fluorica 6x and Equisetum hyemale tincture, often indicated in hypertrophy of medium severity. If there is no undoubted improvement, or if there is advanced sclerosis, we must think of the deep acting remedies such as Baryta carbonica or Conium. Often there may be an adenoma or tumour of grave origin.

Chionanthus Virginica

I have been using this drug for over two years as a specific for so-called sick headache. I prescribe it as follows : In cases of habitual sick headache, 5 drops of the 2x dilution three times a day for a week, then twice a day for a week, then once a day for a week, after which the patient only takes it when symptoms of the attack show themselves. I regard it almost a specific.

Tips from the Clinique

Picric acid is a remedy we should not forget in all cases of neurasthenic exhaustion. Anaemia, due to nervous debility, is its clinical sign.

Argentum nitricum should not be overlooked in cases of chronic gastritis where neurasthenic symptoms are prominent.

The arsenite of Antimony is indicated in pneumonia with loud rattling rales and a feeble heart action. It is therefore very useful with aged patients.

The daily use of the high normal salt enema, in typhoid fever, is an adjuvant worthy of consideration. It will often reduce a high temperature with greater safety than a remedy.

Ferrum Phos — For fever; gums hot and inflamed, and other febrile disturbances.

Silicea — When there is much sweat about the head, also in scrofulous subjects. Alternate with Calcarea phos.

Pointers to the common Remedies – Dr. M.L. Tyler

Neuralgia

Magnesium Phosphate, called the anti-spasmodic remedy, has proved effective in otalgia neuralgica and in the neuralgic pains of the head and face, associated with the acute inflammation of the tympanum, also in spasm of the tensor tympani muscle and muscles of the pharynx.

A Swelled Head

The heads of hens will often swell greatly and be very hot. Exposure to draughts of air, however, is a fruitful cause of both swelled heads and swollen eyes. Spongia has given relief in many cases but Belladonna is the indicated remedy for this trouble. Bryonia also will relieve.

Thuja as Specific

Variola : Von Boenninghausen recommends Thuja occidentalis as the specific against the disease. He gives it in the 200th, and eight days after the administration of a single dose not a trace of the disease remains.

The Lesser Writings of C. M. F. Von Boenninghausen -1908 –Compiled by Thomas Lindsley Bradford.

Smelling of Medicines

I may now openly confess that in very painful diseases, e, g,, in toothache, tic douloureux, convulsions and the like, where we desire to given relief as quickly as possible, I have for a long time used almost exclusively this method, which often instantaneously brings the desired relief, especially when only the highest potencies are used for this purpose.

Keynote of Plumbum

There appears on the border of the gums a blue line, known as the gingival line. It is caused by the sulphur that exudes in the tartar on the teeth combining with the lead in the blood vessels and forming a deposit of insoluble sulphide of lead.

Plumbum in Epilepsy

Plumbum has frequently caused epilepsy. The characteristic symptoms which indicate it are these : Almost paralytic heaviness of the legs before the attack, and paralysis and prolonged snoring sleep afterwards.

Abscess in Ear

Abscesses are frequently formed in the ears of young children. They are generally preceded by violent pains, giving rise to screaming, rolling and tossing of the head, sudden starting out of sleep and more or less fever. As soon as the abscess breaks and matter is discharged the pain ceases. Belladonna, Mercurius, Chamomilla, and Pulsatilla, are the best remedies for the pain.

The Homoeopathic Domestic Physician -Constantine Hering, M. D.

Perceiving Veratrum

The vomiting and diarrhoea of Veratrum being sudden and copious, are accompanied by exhaustion, cold sweat, a pinched, shriveled and livid aspect of the face and hands, and loss of voice ; but by no great mental or sensorial disturbance, no great depression of spirits or anxiety.

Lectures on Materia Medica -Carroll Dunham, M. D. 1878

Calc Phos Child

The Phosphorus element in this preparation seems to change the temperament, for while it retains its wonderful remedial power over tardy bone development it acts best in spare subjects instead of fat. So that if we find a sickly child with fontanelles remaining open too long or reopening after once closed, the child being spare and anaemic, we think of this remedy.

Leaders in Homoeopathic Therapeutics – E. B. Nash, M. D.

Silicea Child

The Silicea child is not larger anywhere than natural except in its ” big belly,” which is due to diseased mesentery. Its limbs are shrunken, its eyes sunken and its face pinched and old looking. It does not increase in size or strength… learns to walk late.

Leaders in Homoeopathic Therapeutics – E. B. Nash, M. D.

Antimonium Tartaricum

All pneumonic cases which have developed cough, which is constant and distressing, which is disposed to be loose with much expectoration, need antimonium tartaricum. It is even more suitably indicated if there are present long lasting dyspeptic symptoms with loss of appetite and soreness of the left hypochondrium.

S.M. Gunavante – Introduction to Homeopathic Prescribing

A Caution

Prescribing on types or temperaments, is at best a slack method of using the blessings of homoeopathy. It is really keynote prescribing, and then not on any morbific symptoms, but on a general stature that is present from birth.

Gonorrhoea

For the first stage of an uncomplicated gonorrhea, there is no better simile and no more efficient remedy than Mercurius solublis.

Spongia for the Dog

While in the house of a patient at Folkestone, we were distressed by hearing the dry, hard, hoarse, laryngeal cough of a favourite dog. We recommended Spongia, having often found this remedy most useful in similar coughs affecting human patients, and made a mixture of the 1x dilution for the dog. The animal had suffered from the cough for many weeks, and the paroxysms were frequent and distressing.

Later we were informed that after the second dose of the mixture the dog’s cough was gone, and shortly afterwards the animal was quite well.

Constantine Hering and the Snake

While he was in South America in July 1828, Hering and his wife were living in a little camp on the upper Amazon river, on the edge of the great tropical forests. The natives were his assistants and had told him much of a deadly serpent living there and he had offered them a reward for a live specimen. One day they brought in a bamboo box, and then fled from the place. They had brought him a living

Surukuku, the most venomous of their snakes. It was the Lachesis trigonacephalus, or lance-headed viper. He and his wife were alone, and he was about to risk life itself in order to obtain its venom. As the box was opened he struck the snake a blow on the head, and then placed the head under a forked stick and pressed out the poison on sugar of milk. The poison thus obtained was for many years the only supply used in preparing the attenuations of our Lachesis. He brought the dead snake with him to the United States and it is now preserved in the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia.
