Lycopodium in Labor

During labor pains she must keep in constant motion, with weeping. Labor pains run upwards and she declares that she cannot stay in bed. Pain sometimes goes from right to left, across hypogastrium and abdomen. “I can’t stand it. I must get up, or I’ll die.” When this state prevails, give Lycopodium at once. You will be surprised at the instantaneous calmative effect that it will have. Not only this, but the case goes on in harmonious efficiency until labor is normally completed.

Referred Pain

Frequently pain occurs, not in the part diseased, but in a distant one. Inflammation of the liver generally first shows itself by pain in the right shoulder ; inflammation of the hip-joint, by pain in the knee ; stone in the bladder, by pain at the end of the penis ; disease of the heart, by pain down the left arm.

Test for Correct Potency

Different potencies of a remedy may be tested to see which is most appropriate, by placing one or two globules (# 20 or 40) in the crevice between two fingers. A mild heat is felt from the correct potency, while there is no feeling from the other potencies.

Travel Sickness in Dogs

Nux vomica 30x is indicated when the dog refuses to sit down, howls and hurtles from one side of the vehicle to the other. If it lies on the floor salivating or vomiting, or sometimes urinating, Cocculux 6x is the remedy (in some cases combined with Tabacum 6x) The remedies can also be given three times a day for 10 days before travel. After a few journeys the dog will no longer be prone to the condition.

Bee Stings in Dogs

Apis 200X given at the beginning of the season will immunize the dog, so that such stings will never be life threatening.

Glycerinum

Used homeopathically, dynamized, it seems to act deeply and long, building up tissue. Of great use in marasmus, diabetes and mental and physical debility. Poison Ivy, Oak, Sumac

Contact with the toxin from these plants produces and itching burning rash and sometimes small blisters. Symptoms develop anywhere from a few hours to a week after exposure. The reaction can be prevented or reduced by washing the area with soap and water within an hour of exposure. Contaminated clothes should also be washed.

Rhus tox – Better from hot water.

Ledum – Better from cold application.

Anacardium – Large blisters filled with yellow fluid. Itching is better from hot water.

Graphites – Honey colored fluid oozes out and dries to yellow crystals. Worse at night and from heat.

Delirium Tremens

December 23, 1886, 1 was called to see Mr. B., 30 yrs old. He had been drinking hard for seven weeks and had not slept for some time. No hallucinations yet, but he was in terror, which was depicted on his countenance as well as expressed by him. He begged for immediate relief in an almost unmanly way, although he is of more than usual courage. Could not keep still a second, which was not spasmodic, but resulted from the mental condition. He could not bear to be left alone a moment.

I gave him Stramonium 200 in water every two hours. When I again saw him in the evening, his mind was clear, no fears tormented him and he felt quite natural. The next morning all signs of mania-a-potu had passed and no more Stramonium was required.

Picric Acid for Furuncles

“Picric ac. is as near a specific for small furuncles in any part of the body as any remedy can be. In the meatus externus it aborts the furuncle if seen early and mitigates, if advanced, as well as corrects the habit.” (Dr. Houghton.)

Teucrium for Threadworm

Teucrium marum (Cat Thyme) is said to be specific against the terrible itching in the anus from thread-worm (Ascarides). Itching and constant irritation in the evening in bed. Crawling in rectum after stool.

Phytolacca in Caked Breast

When a large area of the breast is inflamed, hard, and tender, often due to a plugged duct, it is sometimes called “caked breast”. In ordinary caked breasts, Phytolacca is almost a specific. Sore and fissured nipples, with intense suffering when putting the child to breast ; the pain seems to start from the nipple and irradiate all over the body.

Arnica as Specific

In Meningitis after a fall causing concussion, there are cases where the meningeal irritation does not show until several weeks after the injury. For such cases Arnica is specific.

Horrible Headache – Cimicifuga

I was consulted at the office for a headache; the pain commenced on the top of the head, a constant pain, but every few minutes it would shoot downwards to both eyes. (Phytolacca has pain from frontal region to vertex shooting from left eye to vertex.) Amelioration: In the fresh air. Aggravation: From moving the eyes. One dose of Cimicifuga C. M. (Swan) cured.

Helleborus

At the Siege of Kirrha in 585 BC Hellebore was used to poison the city’s water supply, allowing the invading armies to prevail. Alexander the Great reportedly died of Hellbore poisoning administered by his royal cup bearer. Homeopaths use it in potency to heal and it has been effective in meningitis (alternating convulsion and stupefaction), concussion (after arnica) when sleepiness remains. Meningitis with boring of head into pillow & cri encephalique; coma, epilepsy, stroke, Typhoid fever etc. Sluggish, indifferent, stupor. Chilly. Worse exertion, stooping, 4-8pm.

Hypericum to the Rescue

A woman consulted me with pain in her 3rd and 4th toe, radiating forwards. A diagnosis of arthritis was made by a rheumatologist and unsucessfully treated with NSAID. In my opinion it was not arthritis, but a Morton metarsalgia, confirmed by eliciting the neuralgic pain by compressing the metatarsal heads.The cause of this is a neuroma of the interdigital nerve. I prescribed Hypericum 30, and after one dose, the pain and discomfort totally disappeared. She could walk normally again and throw away her brace.

From this we must learn that first, a correct medical diagnosis is necessary, but also understanding the pathophysiology is important to make a correct homeopathic prescription. Allopathy and homeopathy are often complementary.

Butyric Acid

In the beginning, dry fever – Aconite often repeated.

In the beginning, the coryza being dry – Nux or Sticta.

Excessive dryness of nasal passages – Sticta.

Nose dry at night, damp during day – Nux.

Headache, with dry cough – Nux.

Watery secretions – Chamomilla, Pulsatilla, Sulphur
