Some Tips from E.A. Farrington MD

Rhododendron

Rhododendron is particularly useful in chronic rheamatism, affecting the smaller joints. It is one of the best remedies for what has been termed gout, when there is a fibrous deposit in the great-toe joint, and not the usual depoats of urate of

soda.

Nux juglans

Nux juglans is one of our very best remedies in tinea favosa, especially when it occurs on the scalp and behind the ears. Itching is intense at night.

Rhus Tox

In orbital cellulitis, Rhus is almost a specific. It should always be given in cases in which the symptoms indicate no other remedy.

Spigelia

Spigelia is one of our best remedies for catarrh of the posterior nares. The symptoms indicating it are profuse discharge of mucus through the posterior nares. Nasal mucus passes off only through the posterior nares.

Ipecacuanha

Ipecacuanha is one of the best remedies we have for capillary bronchitis of infants,

There is a great accumulation of mucus in the chest. Rales all through the chest, both anteriorly and posteriorly. The cough is spasmodic and usually attended with vomiting of phlegm.

Digitalis

Digitalis also produces violent erections, even chordee. It is one of our best remedies for involuntary seminal emissions during sleep, without dreams even. The emissions are followed by great weakness.

Phosphoric acid

Phosphoric acid is one of the best remedies we have for the bad effects of grief, particularly for the chronic effects of disappointed love. It is particularly indicated after Ignatia. Ignatia suits the acute symptoms and Phosphoric add the chronic

Ammonium carb

You will find Ammonium carb. indicated for somnolence or drowsiness with rattling of large bubbles in the lungs, bluish or purplish hue of the lips from lack of oxygen in the blood, and brownish color to the tongue. Ammonium carb. is also of use in poisoning by charcoal fumes. Arnica is sometimes of use in these cases, as is also Bovista.

Another use we may make of Ammonium carb is in the beginning of cerebrospinal meningitis. The patient falls into a stupid non-reactive state. He is cold, and the surface of the body is cyanotic. Pulse is very weak. In just such cases, you should give Ammonium carb. which will bring about reaction. Then you

may select some more specific remedy which will cure the trouble.

Hepar

Hepar is an antidote to metallic poisoning generally, but especially to mercury and iodide of potassium.

Moschus

The most important hysterical symptoms of Musk are: Attacks even to fainting or unconsciousness, coldness of the surface, pale face, suffocative paroxysms, scolding until she falls unconscious.

Apocynum

When indicated, Apocynum demands that the following symptoms be present: Bewilderment, heaviness of head, drowsiness, debility, disturbed sleep. The functions are sluggish. The pulse is slow. The kidneys are torpid, or else the urine is copious and almost involuntary from relaxed sphincters. The nose and throat are filled with thick yellow mucus on awakening. Sense of oppression at the

epigastrium and chest, can hardly get breath to speak.

Pulsatilla

Pulsatilla is also an excellent remedy in small central corneal ulcers, with no vascular supply, especially when occurring in scrofulous subjects.

Some Tips from James Tyler Kent MD

Carduus Marianus

This is one of the most important liver remedies, if a homoeopathic author can be excused for the expression. The patient is very sensitive to cold, and is subject to attacks of bilious vomiting at regular or irregular intervals. The author has cured many violent sick headaches ending in vomiting bile.

Natrum Phosphoricum

The author has given this remedy for twenty years to many patients whose nerves were in a fret from mental exertion and sexual excesses and vices. He is aggravated from a draft, from becoming. Prolonged weakness from loss of fluids. Fear at night; of impending disease. Great prostration of mind.

Phytolacca

Until this remedy was known there was but one remedy for the old cicatrices in the mammary gland. Graphites was the old routine remedy, but Phytolacca, is a better remedy and suits the general concomitants oftener.

Sarsaparilla

When the circulation is feeble the parts turn blue, over the shin bones, on the backs of the feet, toes, blue spots like approaching senile gangrene. Useful in old age when black and blue spots appear on the backs of the hands and elsewhere.

Cardiac Tips from Thomas C. Duncan, M. D.

Do not be afraid to try to benefit hearts with severe structural change. We have remedies that will control hypertrophy and valvular lesions. Even when lack of compensation and heart failure threatens, our remedies, with proper management, have prolonged life, to the satisfaction of the patient and friends and the benefit of the physician.

Aortic Orifice – Pulse slow, firm, and prolonged signifies obstruction of

the aortic orifice.

Pulsation in jugular veins  – Pulsation in jugular veins signifies tricuspid regurgitation.

Purring sensation –A purring sensation is present in endocardial involvement or anemia.

Hypertrophy  – When the apex strikes the chest wall below the normal point it indicates Hypertrophy.

Apex Beat    – The Apex beat is found to the left of the normal location in cardiac enlargement, generally dilatation and from valvular disease, or it may be due to an elevated diaphragm.

Palpitation   – We may know that the disorder is functional and not structural when the palpitation is not increased by moderate exercise. If increased it may be inferred that it is due to hypertrophy with possible valvular lesion.

Some Ophthalmic Tips from Timothy F. Allen, M.D.

Hepar Sulph

In the severer forms of strumous ophthalmia, in which the pustules and ulcers  are situated on the cornea and marked by the intensity of the symptoms, there is probably no remedy more frequently indicated than Hepar.  It is chiefly indicated in ulcers and abscesses of the cornea, especially in the deep sloughing form of ulcer if complicated with hypopion.

Mercurius

Mercury has always been and probably always will be the principal remedy for iritis. The solubis has been employed with great success in many cases, though not as commonly useful as the corrosivus

Rhus Tox

Rhus tox is the chief remedy for conjunctivitis caused by  exposure to the wet (Calc), especially when the conjunctiva is much chemosed, with some photophobia, profuse lachrymation  and edematous swelling of the lids.

Aurum Met.

Aurum met is the appropriate remedy for many cases of trachoma, either with or without pannus (especially however, when pannus is present). There is probably no other remedy which that has cured more  cases.

Calendula

Calendula is useful in traumatic inflammation of the conjunctiva or cornea, following any operation or resulting from a cut wound of any description.

Cantharis

Cantharis is useful for ophthalmia traumatica caused from any burn, as from the flame of a candle, explosion of fire works, etc.,

Hamamelis

Hamamelis has proved very beneficial in traumatic conjunctivitis and keratitis, consequent upon the burn of a flame or other injuries, in which there has been excoriating pain,  great photophobia, constant acrid lachrymation and great vascularity of the conjunctiva.
