Dear Dr. Khalsa,

My little cat has bronchitis and I’m wondering whether Bryonia or Antimonium tart. or something else would help. She has had this condition for 3 weeks and seems to not be getting better, with a dry barking cough where she tries to bring up sputum but not much comes up.  Her stool is dry and dark.  She is eating and drinking okay.  Her breathing is rattling and noisy.  She is 12 years old.  She is not irritable and actually less so than when well and purrs but with much noise from her rattling larynx.

Thank you

Kate FitzGibbon

Dr. Deva Khlasa:   I am not sure why you diagnosed bronchitis as cats do not get bronchitis, really. Cats also rarely cough unless they have a severe problem such as a cardiac problem. I recommend a full veterinary exam, a complete blood test, a chest x ray so that this can be correctly diagnosed. Most of the time when older cats exhibit such respiratory problems it indicates a rather severe problem.

Dr. Deva Khalsa:   Hi Natasha,

To make sure your dog does truly have Cushings disease which is overdiagnosed, please read this article I wrote: http://www.doctordeva.com/wp-content/uploads/cushings-disease.pdf

Some injuries are beyond the scope of homeopathic remedies. If that is the case, Prolotherapy can be very effective. It involves injecting a non-toxic substance around the joint which stimulates regeneration of ligaments.  To understand knee injuries and how well prolotherapy works, please read this article:  http://www.doctordeva.com/wp-content/uploads/Prolotherapy-For-Stifle-Injuries.pdf

Dear Dr. Khalsa,

How important is it to feed a cat raw food?  Is it much healthier than canned food? How important is it that the food be organic and free from GMO’s.  Lastly, where can I find a recipe for raw cat food?

Thank you

Cecilia

Dr. Deva Khalsa:   Hi Cecelia,

I personally believe raw food, or at least some raw food, is good for cats. The fat on raw food is healthy whereas cooked fat is toxic. Cats usually like raw meat. There are many books with diets for pets and recipes for cats. Here is one good source for recipes:  http://tcfeline.com/

Hello Dr. Khalsa,

My 8 year old Collie has a sebaceous cyst on her back.  Should I opt for surgery or is there a remedy I could try first?

Thank you

Margie

Dr. Deva Khalsa:   Hi Margie,

Remedies don’t work very well with these cysts. I have often lanced and emptied them without surgery as an in-office procedure. Unfortunately there are not many veterinarians who do this. If the cyst is not large you may try Baryta carbonica 6x ( or 3c).

  • I have a 5 year old pony who has out of control scarcoids. My vet can not offer affordable pain free treatment and has advised euthanasia.
He’s only 5, appears to be in no pain and I’m not ready to give up on him yet.
