Rodilardus Urinates Gelatinous

Rodilardus is a rather slender, female dark gray cat, with darker stripes. She is affectionate and belongs to Mr. and Mrs H… from Soultz-sous-Forêts. Matthieu, about 10 years old, is the son of the family.

Case presentation

On October 10th 1991, Matthieu and his mother arrived at quarter to eight with a big open basket. Therein stood Rodilardus upright, her back curved upwards like an old roman bridge. I put my hand under her belly and lifted her out of this basket to put her on the table. She began to purr as soon as her whole weight reposed on my hand, and stopped purring when she stood on the table! There she stood with her back bent and pushing, showing real tenesmus. I lifted her again and put her down and the purring started and stopped again.

The cat was skinny, is quiet and seems to like to be caressed. The palpation of the kidneys seemed to be painful.

On my question : “What is the matter with her ?” Matthieu answered proudly shouting: “Rodilardus urinates gelee!” and the mother added : “When the urine stands, it becomes thick and turns quickly to gelee. The cat is no longer clean and urinates very often, a few drops, everywhere. She always stays like this, bent double.”

Repertorisation

The diagnosis is obvious: a Nephritis with much albuminuria. I have very few symptoms but with good modalities :

• 1 – Urine, gelatinous, lumpy on standing : Kent p. 686

• 2 – Abdomen, pain, bend double, must Kent p.556

• 3 – Bladder; Urging frequent; Kent p. 653

Remarks

Really I have just one symptom : everything turns around the nephritis : the tenesmus, the amelioration by pressure as well as by bending double (the position increases the pressure inside the belly). Polyuria and albuminuria are still correlated to the nephritis and are nothing else than modalities ! The purring is nothing else than the cat’s expression of a certain relief.

But all in all, we have here a fine keynote for Colocynthis.

Treatment and follow-up

Two days later a phone call tells me that Rodilardus has completely recovered. Two years later, when Mr. and Mrs. H… left Soultz-sous-Forêts for another region, Rodilardus was still completely healthy and still affectionate.
