There is also an addendum booklet at the back that includes new remedies which have been used with the Narayani combinations.

I decided to buy this book because I was fascinated when on a “secret” homeopathic Facebook group experienced practitioners were recommending these weird sounding, horror of horrors, “combination” remedies, like War, Inflammation, Drawing, etc. and saying how well they worked with or without a constitutional remedy.  Although I am basically a classical homeopath my curiosity took the better of me and I decided to find out more.  Now there are books explaining the principles of Narayani remedies and the philosophy behind them but I decided to plunge straight in and get the book which contained all the remedies you can buy, their usage and their suggested dosage.

So how did this book come about? Basically Nimisha Parekh has produced an alphabetical index of all the remedies for ease of use.  The content comes from the original Handbooks of Healing by Swami Narayani – the bible if you like, of these remedies.  To this day, groups of people at the Soham Foundation carry on this healing work around the world. On page three of this book there is a photo of Swami Narayani and a small introduction about the work of the Soham Foundation. On the following page Nimisha addresses some of the concerns of people using these remedies which I found very interesting.

The Contents of the book follows and then an explanation about the remedies and their organisation into groups, of which there are 12, of which 8 of the groups are combination remedies. The 12 groups are, Mixtures 1-117, OrganoMixtures (OM) 1-34. Chakras 1-34, Meridian Remedies 1-12, Omkar Remedies  1-12,   The 12 Cranial Nerves  e.g. Olfactory , Facial, Vagus , 15. Balance Remedies 1-23, Soham Mixtures (Spec) 1-41, Gem Remedies 1-12, Crystal Remedies 1-44, The 5 Elements (includes metal) and Single Organ Remedies of which there are 15. There is then a brief description of all these groups and the abbreviation given in the book which most of us will know e.g.BD – twice a day.

We then start in seriousness on the description of the remedies from A-W. With each remedy there is the title of it, its usage, a breakdown of what’s in it and its recommended dosage.  I think the best way to describe these remarkable remedies is to reproduce the format of one, and for this I will choose the first one in the book.

ACIDITY –  30CH (MIX 37)

USAGE:  All acid conditions in the body: for example heartburn, itching of skin, skin conditions, inflammation caused through acid. Can be used in conjunction with Sufi, Digestion Balance, Liver Mix or Liver Balance.

BREAKDOWN

  • Arum Trip – acidity is the keynote of this remedy
  • Fagopyrum – great action on skin, producing pruritus. Good for pruritus senilis. It is also indicated for itching eyes. Itching deep in hands.
  • Strontium brom – neutralises excessive acidity.
  • Argentum nit – great nervous fear remedy when the emotions are causing the acidity, especially in the stomach and abdomen areas.
  • Causticum – an acidity of burning rawness and soreness
  • Natrum phos – is the remedy to balance any acid condition
  • Aconite –is to balance the emotional conditions because emotions cause most of the acid conditions.

DOSAGE — TDS, or if critical 6TD.

All the remedies are organised in this brilliantly clear way. I have at present six patients trialling this particular remedy along with a constitutional remedy.

This section is amazing to read, as you have such remedies as Epilepsy, Eye Retina (One of my patients has just reported an improvement in her sight – she has a detached retina),Water balance. It is fascinating. At the end of the section is a page for your own notes.

The next section describes the Chakra remedies, and the Gem remedies follow this. There are 9 single remedies and 3 combinations. Against each remedy is a list of conditions it is useful for.  This is followed by the 12 Meridian remedies and their usage, and then the new 44 Crystal Remedies made from vibrations and holy signs. These have names like C4 Moon and Star 30C – Atrial and Emotional remedy – which balances astral bodies, works on awareness, obsessions, attachments and addictions.

The next group are the Omkar Remedies which were made by a group of people working in the Soham Sanctuary in South Africa. They are for chronic and persistent problems and used for 3-6 months with homeopathic combinations. Examples include two types of Candida and Heal Multiple Sclerosis. The 5 Elements and their related miasms and the Cranial nerve remedy descriptions are next, followed by the Single Organ Remedies.

After this is the useful therapeutic index followed by an alphabetical listing of all the remedies as a table with the name, group and potency. Lastly by not least is an Addendum pamphlet in a sleeve at the back of the book. This contains combinations which are used at the College of Practical Homeopathy Student Clinic in London and are not part of the original Narayani remedies. They can be obtained from www.narayaniremedies.com. Examples of these include Anti- Inflammatory Bowel Combo, Hay fever Combo and two Thyroid Support combos. Like the rest of the remedies in the book, the breakdown of what they contain is included along with dosage suggestions.

In this review I have given a taster of what is included in this very different system of homeopathy which is being used by homeopaths successfully in conjunction with their normal constitutional prescribing.  The book is printed on very good quality thick paper with a clear and beautifully formatted print which makes for easy reading. The remedies themselves can be obtained from www.narayaniremedies.com in either pillule form or medicating potency. Some are available from Helios in pillules if you give them the mix number. This is a spiral bound book which allows folding back the pages.

Swami Narayani (Norma Rowan Harman) was born in Durban South Africa on 1- 17- 1924 and passed on 4 -1- 1995. You can learn more about her and the story behind her remedies here:
