Covid-19 in a Man of 44

Patient: A man of 44 who is k/c/o DM since many years, taking regular treatment, presented with the following complaints on 22^nd July 2020:

1. Fever the last 3-4 days
2. Throat pain the last 3 days
3. Cough with mild expectoration

Occupation:  He does marketing business in south Africa. Before his illness, he was in a hot climate which suddenly changed to rain. First, he developed fever with heat of his whole body and sore throat, then cough with expectoration. He took allopathic tablets without relief and was subsequently rushed to the hospital. A doctor tested him for malaria, which was negative and then for Covid-19, which was positive.

Details of Chief complaints-

Fever for the last 4 days

Sudden onset

Heat of body with severe body ache

Heat of body with perspiration++

During fever extreme thirst, with dryness of throat

Throat pain for the last 3 days

Sudden onset

Rawness in throat

> Warm water

(For throat pain he took some homemade remedies and now he has no throat symptoms)

Cough with mild expectoration the last 2 days

Usually cough is dry

Continuous cough

Mild expectoration – Previously bloody, now blood is absent

Now mild, yellowish, thick expectoration

• Desires – Sweets++, Green vegetables, Fruits
• Aversion- Milk
• Thirst – Thirsty with dryness of mouth++
• Perspiration – profuse, mainly on chest and neck

Thermal – Hot

Mind – 

• Mild tempered
• Less talkative
• Anxiety about his business++
• Anxiety about his family

Totality of this case-

-Dryness of throat

-Fever with profuse perspiration

-Dry cough < Night

-Dryness with thirst

-Desire – Sweet++

-Aversion – Milk

-Thermal – Hot

-Anxiety About Business

-Mild tempered

Repertorization

Remedy Selected-  Bryonia Alba 30 – Stat dose given on 22^nd July 2020.

Patient repeated the medicine just once in 3^rd follow up, i.e on 28^th July 2020.

 

Why Bryonia alba

Other remedies like Sulphur, Natrum Mur come close to Bryonia but I gave Bryonia because it covers the above totality and he is very business minded. He was severally ill but conversation was constantly about his business. Also, dryness of mucus membranes is marked.

1st Follow up  (24^th July 2020)

-Dryness of mouth reduced

-Single episode of fever

-Mild cough, reduced expectorations

-Breathlessness reduced

2nd Follow up (26^th July 2020

-No episode of fever

-Dry cough occasionally, reduced expectorations

-Breathlessness reduced considerably

3rd Follow Up (28^th July 2020)  Bryonia Alba 30 repeated

-Mild cough increased but no expectations

(Repeated one more dose of medicine)

-No episode of fever

-Breathlessness reduced much more

4th follow up (30^th July 2020)

-Dry cough reduced

-No Breathlessness

-No episode of fever
