In Praise of Homeopathy

Homeopath Louise Mclean discusses some history of homeopathy interspersed with links to excellent information sources.  The article could be used to establish homeopathy’s value and credibility in a succinct manner.

We owe our great thanks to the discovery of homeopathy in 1789 by German doctor Samuel Hahnemann, when he experimented with Peruvian Bark and its suitability as a medicine for malaria.

Since then, its popularity has spread throughout the world and cured many millions of people.  This article of 2022 shows that homeopathy continues to grow and gain popularity worldwide. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/blogs/voices/despite-all-odds-homeopathy-continues-to-gain-popularity/

Homeopathy was very successful in treating epidemics that raged throughout Europe in the early 1800s, notably cholera, typhoid, diphtheria, polio, scarlet fever, yellow fever, pneumonia and influenza.

It has a long history of use in Britain, where in the Victorian times there were once at least fourteen homeopathic hospitals and hundreds of homeopathic pharmacies. In those days the royalty and aristocracy of Britain were very keen on it and this article for those interested, lays out the facts. http://www.homeoint.org/morrell/articles/pm_brita.htm

In America there were 100 homeopathic hospitals and 22 homeopathic medical schools during the 1800s, as well as thousands of homeopathic pharmacies. Here you can read about the epidemics it cured in the USA. https://homeopathic.com/the-history-of-homeopathy-in-epidemics-by-cilla-whatcott-hd-rhom-cch/

This a much more in depth article about the enormous success of homeopathy throughout America. http://www.homeoint.org/history/king/1-27.htm

It might be strange to people that all those homeopathic hospitals and pharmacies have disappeared in America and Britain.  This was due to a concerted effort to remove them by first getting rid of all the homeopathic colleges which trained homeopaths, so there would be no more graduate homeopaths. With this list of homeopathic institutions in America, you can see what a huge task that was.  http://www.homeoint.org/history/king/index.htm

The removal of homeopathic colleges was brought about following the Flexner Report in America in 1910, which was the death knell for safe and natural medicine, such as herbalism, osteopathy and homeopathy.  Albert Flexner was tasked to visit every medical school of every discipline and make out his report, which redefined what could be taught. This resulted in only the pharmaceutical medical model being deemed acceptable. https://kamimcbride.com/the-flexner-report/

Historically, homeopathy attracted support from many of the most respected members of society in the USA, such as writers William James, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Louisa M. Alcott, Mark Twain and former American Presidents James Garfield and William McKinley.

In Britain among its supporters were writers George Bernard Shaw, Charles Dickens, W.B. Yeats, William Thackeray, Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli and musician Yehudi Menuhin.  Other well known advocates were Dostoevsky, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Mahatma Gandhi.

In France, 95% of doctors currently use homeopathy, as well as pediatricians and midwives.  Homeopathic medicine is freely available in French pharmacies. In 2019 the majority of French people (72%) had a good perception of homeopathy, though their government stopped reimbursing it in 2021, the reasoning for which has been branded ‘deeply flawed’.  https://homeopathy-soh.org/french-move-to-end-homeopathy-funding-based-on-flawed-evidence/

Nowadays, India is the country where homeopathy is most widely used and according to Statista in 2021 there were 312,000 homeopathic doctors. Because of its low cost, many people there rely on it solely as their only form of medicine.  https://www.statista.com/statistics/1405599/india-homeopathy-doctors-by-state/

One of the most important trials on homeopathy was done inadvertently and it unequivocally proved its efficacy. In 2007 and 2008, an outbreak of Leptospirosis in Cuba was contained using a preventative homeopathic dose of the actual disease itself, which was given to 2.3 million people. This resulted in a dramatic fall in the usual number of people contracting leptospirosis during that season.  https://www.researchgate.net/publication/45439731_Large-scale_application_of_highly-diluted_bacteria_for_Leptospirosis_epidemic_control

There are many other scientific studies proving the benefits and effectiveness of homeopathic medicine, some of which are detailed here.  https://homeopathy-uk.org/treatment/scientific-evidence-and-homeopathy/

The pharmaceutical industry has not looked kindly on homeopathy. Great efforts have been made since its resurgence in popularity in the 1990s to deter people from using it, mainly through ridicule and propaganda in the media.  Obviously Pharma loses money when people prefer to use a safer, gentler and effective form of medicine, free from side effects, addiction and poisoning.

Many people don’t realise that homeopathy is increasingly being given to farm animals and has even been found to work very well on farm crops, trees and plants.  This undoubtedly proves that the healing effect of homeopathy is not placebo!

Homeopathy at Wellie Level teaches courses to farmers, so they can use homeopathy on their animals. It can be used for a wide variety of conditions and in the video here, the farmer’s wife explains how it is good for the environment, saves them money on veterinary bills and works quickly.  https://www.hawl.co.uk/

A remarkable book was published by Vaikunthanath Das Kaviraj on the subject of Agrohomeopathy, namely Homeopathy for Farm and Garden.  I personally met Mr. Kaviraj who recommended Belladonna for the blackspot and aphids on my beautiful heritage red roses.  Needless to say, it worked perfectly!  This book is so popular it is now on its 6th edition.

In his published paper, ‘The Continuum of a Unified Theory of Disease’, world famous homeopath, Professor George Vithoulkhas, says:

“Throughout the life of a person, from birth to death, there is a continuum in the pathological conditions that person may experience. The body as a whole suffers deeply any time there is an acute or a chronic condition that is either maltreated or neglected.”

“Suppression of diseases, through excess of chemical drugs or other means, many times overwhelms the body’s natural defenses and forces the immune system to compromise and start a deeper line of defense, which then constitute the beginning of a new chronic condition.”

Sadly, the medical profession’s cures are often nothing more than palliation at best and suppression at worst, which as stated above, then becomes a new and deeper chronic condition, even harder and more stubborn to treat.

Conversely, through carefully noting down all the symptoms of a disease and prescribing a matching homeopathic remedy accordingly, homeopaths seek to work with and aid the body’s efforts to heal itself, restoring the patient back to health.

As we see ever more results of the bad effects of the current medical model’s prescribing, we can only hope there will be an increase in the number of people finding themselves a good homeopathic practitioner to reverse the state of their ill health.
