Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person’s spine is curved from side to side or scoliosis is a condition in which there is a lateral curvature of the spine that may occur in the thoracic spine, lumber, thoracolumber spinal segment, the curvature can be moderate to severe.
According to “midlexicon’s” medical dictionary scoliosis is
Abnormal lateral and rotational curvature of the vertebral column depending on the etiology, there may be one curve, or primary and secondary compensatory curves; scoliosis may be “fixed or as a result of muscles and or bone deformity or ‘mobile” as a result of unequal muscle contraction.
Scoliosis is more common in girls and occurs most often during the growth spurt in early teenage years. Small degree of lateral curvature does not cause any medical problems but larger curve can cause postural imbalance and lead to muscle fatigue and pain, more sever scoliosis can cause breathing problems and lead to spondylosis or arthritis of the spine.
The majority of children with scoliosis require no treatment, as the condition resolves on its own as the child arrows. Those who require treatment as a back brace which is usually effective.
Types of scoliosis
- Neuro muscular
Causes of scoliosis

Diagnosis of scoliosis
Diagnosis mainly includes
Medical history of the patient
Physical examination – mainly involves examination of the back, chest, legs, pelvis, feet and skin. The doctors check if the patient’s shoulders are whether the head is centered, and whether opposite sides of the body look level.
The doctors also examine the back muscles while the patient is bending forward to see if one side of the rib cage is higher than the other.
X-ray – usually done with significant spinal curves, unusual back pain, or signs of involvement of the central nervous system
Bone scan – radioactive material is injected in the blood stream. This material travels to the bones that are affected and show up on a special instrument called a scanner.
Scoliometer screening – for curve measurement curve that are greater than 20 degree require treatment.
MRI – done specially when there are any neurological changes noted on the exam or if something specific findings are noted in the X- ray examination.
Other routine test may include
- Complete blood count
- Tuberculin test
- Sedimentation rate etc.
Homeopathic treatment of scoliosis
Homeopathy is one of the most popular holistic systems of medicine. The selection of remedy is based upon the theory of individualization and symptoms similarity by using holistic approach. This is the only way through which a state of complete health can be regained by removing all the sign and symptoms from which the patient is suffering. The aim of homeopathy is not only to treat scoliosis but to address its underlying cause and individual susceptibility. As far as therapeutic medication is concerned, several well-proved medicines are available for scoliosis treatment that can be selected on the basis of cause, sensation and modalities of the complaints. For individualized remedy selection and treatment, the patient should consult a qualified homeopathic doctor in person. Some important remedies are given below for scoliosis treatment:
