Ecstasy? – Editorial November 2023

Written by Alan V. Schmukler

The psychoactive recreational drug Ecstasy, also called MDMA is now the subject of research as a treatment for post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD).  It reminded me of similar research into possible therapeutic use of LSD in the 1950’s –70’s.

The researchers are looking for alternatives to the current drugs for PTSD, which have troublesome side effects, and because 35–47% of patients don’t respond to those drugs.

The literature states that “MDMA, affects monoamine reuptake inhibition and release.”  One MDMA study found that most participants experienced at least one adverse event and seven experienced a severe event. The drug can prove fatal if one becomes over heated while using it.

It’s possible MDMA will be more effective than the standard drugs, but it involves tinkering with brain chemistry. It’s also an allopathic, reductionist approach.

As I read about the MDMA research, I thought, “they will try ANYTHING rather than exploring homeopathy!”  Homeopathy has been successfully treating psychiatric illnesses for over 100 years, and without chemical side effects.

In addition to current successes, there is a rich history of thousands of successful cases from the homeopathic hospitals that flourished in the U.S. mid-1800’s to early 1900’s. Jerry Kantor has written a book about that period in time:

Sane Asylums –  The Success of Homeopathy before Psychiatry Lost Its Mind.

The book focuses on patients treated at the Middletown State Homeopathic Hospital at Middletown, N.Y. The patients had active psychoses that included hallucinating, being delusional, suicidal and/or homicidal, along with often having serious physical ailments. They were all treated with standard homeopathic remedies like Phos, Acon, Bell, Ignatia, Stram, Nux, Ars. etc. and discharged as cured. They were not instructed to take remedies the rest of their lives.

Homeopathy is available around the world. If conventional doctors would explore it, they wouldn’t have to ask patients to choose between their disease and dangerous side effects.  Homeopathy is the enlightened future of medicine.  The future is now.
