Malandrinum is not only a better preventive than vaccination, but it is much safer, and if a case of smallpox had occurred, it would probably be the best remedy known.

Onosmodium Virginicum

Patient had constant dull headache, chiefly centered over the left eye and in the left temple, at times so sharp as to be almost unendurable; pain not aggravated by light, noises, or use of eyes, but always worse in the dark and lying down. It was cured with three doses Onosmodium tincture taken at twelve-hour intervals, the chronic dull pain never returning, and the acute suffering seldom recurring, and always soon relieved after a repetition of the drug.

Mel cum sale

There is a combination of honey with salt, known as Mel cum sale. I have used this remedy in prolapsus uteri and even in chronic metritis, especially when associated with subinvolution and inflammation of the cervix. The special symptom which leads you to the remedy is a feeling of soreness across the hypogastrium from ilium to ilium.

Apis in Ovarian Cysts

In ovarian cysts, Apis is an excellent remedy… especially in the incipient stages. We have here, in addition to the burning and stinging pains, numbness down the thigh and over the right side of the body, feeling of tightness across the chest, with cough. This is not a symptom of lung disease, but is reflex from the uterus.

Antidote to Iron

Pulsatilla is the great antidote to Iron, and hence is indicated in the anaemic conditions produced by large or continued doses of it.

Four Remedies in Gout

Ammonium phosphoricum is a useful remedy in constitutional gout where there are nodosities in the joints. It is not so much a remedy for the acute symptoms, but for chronic cases where there are deposits of urate of soda concretions in the joints and the hands become twisted out of shape.

Antimonium crudum has gouty nodes in the joints, but it is easily selected from its gastric symptoms. Urinary symptoms, strong urine, etc., would suggest Benzoic acid, and much red sand Lycopodium, both of which may be found useful in gout.

Then pulsation in my head, redness of my cheeks, thirst, and in short, all these symptoms which are ordinarily characteristic of Intermittent Fever, made their appearance, one after another, yet without the peculiar chilly rigor. This paroxysm lasted two or three hours each time, and recurred, if I repeated the dose, not otherwise. I discontinued it and was in good health.”

It may be well to be careful and not give Silica or Sulphur, or Hepar too often, or too high, in patients that have encysted tubercle in the lungs.

It is well for you to realize that you are dealing with razors when dealing with high potencies

For bruises of bone, cartilages, tendons, insertion of tendons, bruises about cartilages and about joints, Ruta is better than any other remedy.

A wound will sometimes yawn, swell up, no tendency to heal, look dry and shiny on its edges, red, inflamed, burning, stinging, tearing pains; no healing process. That wound needs Hypericum.

Solanum and Sinapis in Colic

When you have a case of colic with severe burning pains, do not fix your mind on Arsenicum to the exclusion of other remedies, but keep in mind Solanum nig. The abdominal pains of this drug are very similar to Colocynth also – i.e., better from bending forward and from pressure. But unlike Colocynth, the pains extend upward toward the heart and left shoulder.

Sinapis nig, also has intense burning in stomach with colic somewhat like Colocynth, with this difference, the pains come on while patient is bent forward, but are instantly relieved by sitting up straight.

Sulphuric Acid

Dr. Hering says: “Pain in the bladder if the desire to urinate is not at once satisfied,” calls for Sulphuric acid. (Pain in the kidneys from the same cause, Conium.)

Dr. Guernsey recommends it for the hernia of infants, where there seem to be no symptoms present except a profound weakness of the little patient.

Sulphur in Pneumonia

In Pneumonia when the stage of solidification is prolonged, the temperature climbs a little higher, the cough becomes a little drier, hectic flush appears on the cheek, the pulse a little more rapid and weak, the head and extremities become hot, the restlessness is increased. All this in spite of the use of the apparently indicated remedy. Unless some change takes place soon an abscess will form in the lung. Give a few doses of Sulphur 30th at intervals of two hours and after a few doses resolution will take place, thereby avoiding suppuration.

Three Remedies in Asthma

Kali bichromicum – Worse at three or four o’clock in the morning; relieved by raising stringy mucus; relief also from sitting up and bending forward.

Stramonium – In nervous asthma, where the voice suddenly gives out and takes on a higher pitch. Great sense of suffocation with tight feeling across chest; face becomes blue.

Pothos -Asthma brought on or made worse from inhalation of dust of any kind.

Trituration

To make the first decimal trituration, we weigh out 900 grains of Sugar of Milk, that is we weigh out three times 300 grains. Then we weigh out 100 grains of the crude substance. Of the sugar we take 300 grains,…add the 100 grains of the drug and triturate until it is a well mixed mass. It is well not to cease before half an hour has passed. After an apparently homogeneous mass has been produced, we add the other 300 grains, and continue the trituration for not less than twenty minutes, rotating the mortar and occasionally scraping together. Now we add the last 300 grains, triturate in the same way, and the first trituration is done.
