sinusitis

Dr. Rajiv Peres presents a case of sinusitis and indigestion in a woman of 28. The rubrics : cannot bear opposition, anxiety with fear at night, does not like crowds, indigestion after eggs and aversion to milk proved useful rubrics.

A 28 years old female unmarried, presented with complaints of a rash on her feet for the last two months. She suffered from chronic nasal congestion, so was mostly breathing through her mouth. When she blew her nose she would feel pain in the right ear. Most of the day she felt drowsy. Appeared obese 77 kg and was tired. Preferred to be alone. Cannot have opposition. These days feels very restless because she has been asked to conduct supervision for examinations. Actually she has done her M.A in psychology with B.e.d and was teaching at Navy School until she was terminated from the job, when it was actually time to make her job permanent. This shattered her and she went into severe depression. At that time she was counseled. She was jobless for one year and learned to accept this situation. At present this exam supervision is making her fearful and she gets anxious at night before going to sleep. She feels better by speaking and better by staying in an air conditioned room. Appetite very good, but suffers indigestion (Homeopathy Treatment for Indigestion) from boiled egg. Aversion to milk. Desires for meat. Thermally hot patient. Gets menses after two months which lasts for one month and she has lots of clots. Sleeps too much and dreams about ghosts. She does not do any housework. She does not like crowds. She has a bossy mother and an introverted bossy younger brother.

Past History:  Asthma since 2 years of age cured with homoeopathy. In 2014 diagnosed with P.C.O.D

Family History: Father- D.M, HTN

Mother – Arthritis

Investigations: Thyroid Function test normal.

The patient received Ferrum Phos 200, 1 single dose on 5th April 2018. The totality considered was as follows:  Cannot bear opposition, anxiety with fear at night before going to bed, does not like crowds, indigestion after eggs, aversion to milk. The repertorisation led me to think of Ferrum. I searched in the materia medica for a remedy which is hot with the above mental state and my choice was Ferrum Phos.

I examined Jan Scholten’s ideas in his book “Homoeopathy and the Elements”. In groups 3-9 and period 5 of the Periodic Table, the theme’s of apprehension about the future, limited sense of responsibility, struggle at work, averse to be criticized, matches this case.

Why was Sulphur not my choice? It’s because Sulphur is social, mixing effortlessly with everyone. This patient prefers to be alone. Sulphur is sleepless, restless and moving, whereas she sleeps too much. Sulphur has anger which is openly expressed – by critical mood. That is not the case here as she remains quiet when angry. Sulphur has lots of drive with perseverance, which is missing in this patient.

Let’s see the follow up of this case –

On the 3rd day- after the remedy she informed that she can breathe through the nose, which she could not do since a long time. Also said that she was calm during the process of exam supervision, even when she received a scolding. Anxiousness was much less.

On the 7th day she tried eating egg and brinjal, and this time there was no indigestion which she used to experience.

On the 8th day she reported that the rash is under control and that many days have passed that she did not get any rash (before she had a rash every day).

On the 11th day  the rashes healed completely.

On 20th day she got her menses, and felt anxious about the future. This time the menses was exactly after 2 months. Earlier it would delay for longer. LMP= 21st February 2018. The flow of blood slowly increased from 2nd May to 10th of May and then got heavy with blood clots.

On 38th day she reported that almost every day she would eat egg pattice when they met for prayer service and had no indigestion.   She also says that earlier she would pass stools 3 times a day at any odd times, however since the medicine she goes only in the morning. Reduced 2 kilos weight although eats well.

To summarize: Ferrum Phos has not brought any remarkable improvement in her menses. It is necessary to learn that our selection of medicine should be from our knowledge of M.M. and not just from repertorization. The Repertory is a tool, which shows a group of remedies in chronic cases but every tool has a limited function.
